Slopestyle (soon to be known as Freeskiing) is a ski competition held in a terrain park built to certain specifications.
Each skier / rider performs their most difficult tricks striving to get the highest alititude off the features / jumps.
Skiers / riders execute different types of tricks mixing them together into a seamless flow as they decend through the park. Slopestyle includes halfpipe and the terrain parks.
Slopestyle is currently one of the most popular on slope competitions for both watching and taking part in. It has consistantly been a mainstay of the Winter X Games, is recognized as FIS Freestyle Skiing, and was included as a full metal event for the first time in the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, Russia.
PAFreestyle as a Bronze USSA program provides education and support including certified coaches, judges and officials to ensure the best experience possible for athletes and parents. NOTE: Inverted aerial jumps are only permitted in the presence and at the discretion of a certified USSA level 200 aerial coach.
Training sessions will be:
o Every weekend Saturday and Sunday.
o Morning session is from 9AM - 11AM. o Afternoon session is from 12noon - 2pm.
o Head coaches and the director can make changes to the times depending on weather, conditions or resort management. All groups will have a USSA / USASA coach present.
o PA Freestyle group meeting area will be at a TBD on the slope location at 9AM and also after lunch at 12 noon.
o Each athlete will be required to specify which category of freestyle they will attend most often: Moguls, Slopestyle, Snowboarding. This insures that we will have the required amount of coaches. Athletes will be able to switch day-to-day if there is room in that class --- this is up to head coaches and director.
o Snowboarders are required to stay with snowboarding coaches. Skiers are required to stay with skiing coaches.
o Christmas Camp Training is included with membership. Dates are for December 2015 are TBD
o All Skiers and snowboarders are required to be USSA (www.USSA.org) or USASA (www.USASA.org) members, wear a certified snowsport helmet, that is also approved by USSA and learn to ski / ride all types of terrain. PA Freestyle wants athletes to become great at their discipline, while also becoming competent all-around skiers / riders.
o All Training is subject to change or cancellation based on weather, conditions and / or resort management. PA Freestyle has text / email notification process for all who sign up for it. This means coaches can send out a notification as to any training changes to parents and athletes real-time. o For athlete’s personal safety, each skier or boarder, must be able to demonstrate to coaching staff that they can traverse the entire mountain, including all slopes, trails, terrain parks and lifts, comfortably and safely and without assistance, regardless of snow or weather conditions.
o Skiers / boarders will need to be respectfull of others and demonstrate appropriate on-the-slope etiguette.
o Moguls training will typically be set up in the mogul fields on either Stowe, Goosebumps or Alpine and will included a jump site.
o Slopestyle and Snowboard training will typically be set up in the North Park, The Alleys, the Super or Halfpipe, and Santa's Beard Park.
o Freeriding across the mountain may also be included during training sessions to assist in developing skills sets (Young Guns, edge control, NASTAR course, powder days, etc.).
o The minimum age for athletes is age 8 as of 12/31 as of this year. Younger ages maybe accepted based upon an on the slope tryout and approval by the Program Director once the season has commenced. Contact our Program Director for additional details as to setting up a tryout or if there are other questions. Try out athletes: For those athletes that that younger than 8, as of the season, that require a try out: These athletes may register early to receive the early bird discount. However, if they do not make the team the family will receive a refund for amount paid.
